On the terrace of the wonderful shop annex bar Scudieri close to the Duomo at the piazza in Florence we notice a beautiful Italian woman. Very dark hair, accentuated by a fire-red flower and a lovely tan. She casts an irritated look towards three foreign “fat” ladies (not those from the British t.v. cooking programme) with pale skin, comfortably but rather shabbily dressed and shoed in sneakers. Her expression says it all: ‘Ladies, why don’t you do something about your appearance?”. She, arrogantly convinced of her female superiority in these matters, just sits there being a sight for sore eyes.
It is so relaxing, sitting on a terrace like this and watching life and humanity go by… You have to take the noise as a matter of fact, but the atmosphere is indescribably lively. We had a Prosecco, and enjoyed the drink, life and ourselves. When in season, the Prosecco is adorned with a fresh strawberry, so if you want another one, you always have a very good excuse: fresh fruits are good for you!
We spent hours on end to discover special shops and hidden treasuries of Florence and as far as the latter is concerned: we found a jewel in the hills surrounding Florence, between the Certosa Convent and the Ponte Vecchio. Peace and quiet, breathtaking views, with the never-sleeping city of Florence at a mere 2,5 km distance: the Relais Marignolle.

This accommodation is ideally located for visits to Florence, to be combined with rural beauty and relaxation. Within a quarter of an hour, you are in the centre of this eternally beautiful city for visits to museums, fashion shows, have delicious meals, to do shopping, whatsoever and yet, at the end of a well-spent day, you can relax at the swimming pool, have a refreshing dip, drink something special…
Of course, day-trips into the country, for example to the castles of the Chianti or some wine-tasting, are also very much possible, and worth while.

This relais is surrounded by a wonderful garden with cypresses, pinetrees, broom, rosemary, thyme etc. and of course, bright-red geraniums in pots.

We can honestly say that we were made very welcome here; we were cosseted and spoilt. All the rooms have been very elegantly furnished, with all modern comforts and bathrooms in which you would like to spend hours on end. When coming home in the evening (even after one day, we felt we “came home”) the open fireplace in the lounge has been lit and candlelight is glowing. On the small cupboard you find biscuits and drinks you can serve yourself. If you make it known what you would like for your breakfast the next morning, Italian style with croissants, cakes and home-made jams or rather British, with eggs and bacon: the direction of the Relais Marignolle regards your wishes as their command. And when the weather is typically, Italian-beautiful, you can have your breakfast served in the garden underneath the gazebo, sitting at tables with lovely linen tablecloths and served by the staff wanting to cater to you every wish.

Facilities:
Reception; nicely furnished lounge with parquet floors and an open fire place where you can relax, or engage other guests into conversation and serve yourself your favourite drink; garden with gazebo where during the warm months, breakfast is being served; a swimming pool (12 x 4 m., depth 1,80 m) with terrace, deck- and sunning chairs. Sufficient parking space. Entrance is via an automatic gate with intercom, thus providing you with the necessary safety and privacy. On request, lunches and/or small dinners are being served in the gazebo or alongside the swimming pool. A romantic dinner, for two or more, is to be reserved in a kind of glass chamber in the garden, with a fantastic view. Please enquire at the reception. Recently a new relax room with hot tub hydro massage en infra red sauna has been installed.

Rooms:
This accommodation has 9 rooms: 6 double rooms De Luxe, 1 De Luxe suite for 3 persons and 2 Junior Suites, one of which accommodates 4 persons (2 adults and 2 children). All rooms are superbly furnished (with beautiful parquet floors) and have a mini-bar, telephone, airconditioning, Internet-connection, safe and satellite t.v. Two rooms have a terrace. In all rooms you find all you need to brew your own coffee and/or tea, as well as a small but excellent choice of Chianti wines and champagne. Ample closet-space available. All bathrooms, in marble, are provided with big mirrors, double washing basins, bidet and hair-dryers. The toilets and bathrooms are divided from each other by a glass door. You will find small bouquets of the flowers in season in your room, and lovely-smelling soaps in your bathroom.
Truly: the direction of Relais Marignolle has thought of everything to make their guests comfortable and welcome.

Possibilities for sports/excursions:
This is a very good accommodation for golf-lovers, because if you reserve beforehand, you can play at one of the three golfing clubs surrounding Florence: Ugolino, Poggio dei Medici and Le Pavoniere. In case you would like to do some cooking: you can take a cooking-course here. Upon request, city-tours, wine tasting tours and shopping tours to e.g. factory outlets or art workshops can be arranged.

Distances:
The local bus service, at about 15 min. walking distance, takes you to the centre, direction Porta Romana. In case you would want to dine in Florence in the evening, you might be wise to take a taxi back. If you take your own car: at Porta Romana is a big parking.
